79-Year-Old Man Dies At Hospital Days After Crash In Maryland, Police Say

A death investigation has been launched after a 79-year-old man died at the hospital days after being involved in a crash in Montgomery County.

Beltsville resident Thambiraj Nathaniel, who was a passenger in a vehicle that was struck by another driver while navigating a turn in Silver Spring last week, died on Sunday, Jan. 28 while still being treated for his injuries, according to police.

Detectives from the Montgomery County Department of Police were called at around 1 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 23 to the. intersection of Colesville Road nad Timberwood Avenue, where there was a reported crash in the area with multiple people injured.

Investigators say that the driver of a 2016 Subaru Forester with Nathaniel inside was attempting to make a left from southbound Colesville Road to Timberwood Avenue when it was struck by a 2017 Nissan Rogue traveling in the opposite direction.

The driver of the Subaru, and both passengers of the Nissan were taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries; however, Nathaniel was rushed by paramedics for evaluation and treatment of serious injuries.

On Sunday, Nathaniel died while still at the hospital.

The fatal crash remains under investigation.
